Ellisboro

Ellisboro (milepost SM 7.4)

History

Ellisboro was a town and station stop on the Madison branch between Stokesdale and Madison in southwest Randolph County. I have not found anything about it's history at this point.

The ICC valuation reports indicate that there was a capacity for four cars. The combination station at Ellisboro had a platform that was "decayed, sagged and broken through in places. Window sash all broken, shingles show decay, paint all gone off exterior, building sagged, sills and joists decayed." and this was October 26, 1916. Further, in the ICC building field notes it states "Building not in use and not maintained. To all appearances abandoned and has not been used for 6-8 years." Obviously, Ellisboro was not a thriving rail stop. I can see why the Madison branch was abandoned--nothing much existed on the line to Madison, and Madison was served by the N&W as well.
