A&Y #578 This locomotive had the following characteristics:
This was a class Ks consolidation built by Alco in Richmond (c/n 39295) in 1906 for the Southern Railway. The number was kept when it was rented by the A&Y in place of the 803. The 578 was rented to handle a Jordan Spreader for about 30 days at cost of $20.00 per day. The 578 could handle the Spreader where the 803 could not, so the exchange was made. When 578 returned, the 803 went back to the A&Y lease. According to R.E. Prince, the 578 was retired in March, 1950. Photos:
