This freight 4-6-0 was retired in March 1926. Originally a CF&YV locomotive, it was sold to the Southern as part of the A&Y and eventually became part of class E. Under Southern ownership it may have started as A&Y #25, but was renumbered #476 and then 935 by 1902. In 1903, it was renumbered to #1449 to fit with other acquired E class locomotives. In 1907 to make room for new Pacifics, the class was renumbered from #14xx to #34xx and this locomotive became #3449 until retirement.

Even though #28 did not go to the Southern when the CF&YV was split with the ACL after re-incorporating as the A&Y, it is likely identical or at least similar to #24-27 that did go to the Southern. Unknown location, photographer, or date from Allen collection. |
