Construction year 1889
Construction number c/n 10128
Constructed by Baldwin
Southern Class B
Cylinder size (inches) 17"x24"

This American Type 4-4-0 was originally built for the CF&YV in July 1889 by Baldwin Locomotive Works. It was sold to the Southern as part of the A&Y and eventually became part of class B. Under Southern ownership it may have started as A&Y #18, but was renumbered #1021 by 1903. In 1903, it was renumbered to #1809 to fit with other acquired B class locomotives. In 1907 to make room for new A-7 switchers, the class was renumbered from #1xxx to #3xxx and this locomotive became #3809 on December 26. It was retired and sold to Consolidated Scrap Company in January 1922.

No photo known for this locomotive.

As a Baldwin built locomotive, the CFYV #8 photo I have would not be representative of this locomotive. The Southern 3841 photographed in 1934 (Rail Photo Service), may be closer to how a modernized A&Y 21 may have appeared.
