This American Type 4-4-0 was originally built for the CF&YV. It was not renumbered in CF&YV 1896 renumbering. It and CF&YV old 29 were both numbered #9 from 1896-1899. The old #29 served south of Sanford, according to S. David Carriker. Presumably this implied this #9 served north of Sanford. It was sold to the Southern as part of the A&Y and eventually became part of class B. According to Prince, under Southern ownership it was renumbered SR #864 by 1903. And then to 1870 in 1903 to fit with other acquired B class locomotives . On December 6, 1907, to make room for new A-7 switchers, the class was renumbered from #1xxx to #3xxx and this locomotive became #3870 prior to retirement. It was scrapped in Birmingham, AL in November, 1935.
