Dreams and Heroes
Which layout(s) in the model railroad press do you admire most?

    • Well, youve heard me gush over Steve Flanigans Louisville & Wadley.
    • Stan White's Ma&Pa layout in the Dec 2005 MR is awesome: scenery, operation, short line theme.
    • Tony Koesters old AM for balance between scenery and operation.
    • Rand Hoods for scenery, but I dont like western themes.
    • Jack Burgess Yosemite Valley, but again the western theme
    • Eric Broomans Utah Belt layout for scenery and concept but not era or location.
    • Paul Dolkos B&M layout for operations and scenic balance with prototype theme if not replication.
    • Lance Mindheim's Monon shelf layout featured in MR. BEAUTIFUL scenery.
    • Bill Darnabys Maumee route for concept.

Which model railroaders do you like the most?

    • Tony Koesters too organized and cannot be fatigued it seems, but I like his philosophy. Hes at a different point in modeling than I am though.
    • Dave Frary is a get r done kind of modeler with good eye for scenery and an engineers eye for rule of thumb formulas.
    • Jack Burgess does the prototype layout modeler thing well.
    • Mike Garber (met him at Kudzu Rails) does prototype modeling right, don't know about his layouts.
    • Harold Minkwitz is not afraid to try and then explain what he did (http://www.pacificcoastairlinerr.com/)
    • Spencer Duncan (CVMRR member and friend). Spencer is a tinker who likes neat stuff that works. He is a modeler extraordinaireextending way beyond trains. He is building an A&Y cab from a SilverStreak kit for me. He would be over helping me if he didnt live in NH and I live in MD.
