Personal Interview Survey Page 4

Do you have any physical impairment (poor eyesight, bad knees, respiratory issues, etc.)?

Nothing major yet (thank God). I wear glasses/contacts but they correct my vision fine. My knees are okay. I do have allergies but not enough that sawdust or insulation foam or most chemicals bother me much.  I have a serious respirator mask and a venting paint booth just in case.

What is your favorite thing about model railroading?

I’m not sure I have a single favorite thing.  I like tools and working with modeling tools.  I like planning (but not designing!).  I like to do historical research.  I have fun with computers, but to me they are another tool (have ALPS printer, designed A&Y font based on photos and SR lettering diagrams).

When I had a layout, I really enjoyed watching the train run through the scenery more than switching, but I was quickly bored until I started using ShipIt!, to create some operation problems.  I think that a finished layout will require some operational scheme to keep it interesting enough that occasional scenery changes or trackwork updates will be fulfilling too.

I would have to say that my absolute favorite thing is to work with one other person, hopefully a friend, on any aspect of modeling a railroad.  I have really enjoyed working with club members, but I wanted something beyond a generic theme layout.  I enjoyed working with another member on trackwork, wiring, decoders, scenery, design, etc.  I like doing them all alone too, but I find it more fun to do it with someone else to help. I’m really hoping that having a final goal will allow me to contact others and find someone who wants to help me work on my layout.
