Notes:
The dates shown are publication dates, and refer to data from the previous fiscal year.  Thus, the 1882 data is accurate until roughly June 30, 181, etc., unless otherwise indicated.
  1. Poor's Manuals for 1887, 1893 give no listing for passenger cars ('87) or combines everything into one group ('93), and list 7 passenger, baggage & etc. cars.  I have assumed that they were the same as the cars before and after those dates.
  2. The page # with asterisk is an appendix page, and lists the officers of the D&NR.
  3. It is assumed that the 3 coal cars from 1887 are here listed as flat cars.
  4. The page given for the D&W is an appendix, and lists officers only.
  5. Beginning in 1892, data is for D&W, and includes milage of DM&Sw.
  6. Page 517 describes the details of purchase of the D&W by the Richmond & Danville.
  7. The 3 "other" cars presumably included the caboose & 2 others from the 1892 data.
  8. The second page # refers to a list of officers.
  9. The second page # refers to a chart of annual  meetings.
  10. DM&Sw was consolidated with D&W 3/1/1899.
  11. No explanation given for pass/baggage changing from 6/3 to 7/2, possibly one car was a combine.
  12. "The line from Danville to Leaksville, 28 m., was made standard gauge in 1900, but 20 m. of it, from Danville to Leaksville Junction, has a third rail for accomodation of narrow gauge equipment."
  13. "The line from Danville to Martinsville, 43 m., was changed to standard gauge in March, 1902."
  14. The 1902 manual lists 5 passenger and 3 combination cars.
  15. "One locomotive and two box cars have been added since June 30, 1902" - these are included here in the totals for 1903.
  16. The 1920 manual lists 10 passenger and 2 combination cars.
  17. No explanation is given for the large number of cars, but it does not appear to be an error.  The line was under USRA control at the time, and might have had more cars allocated to it for some reason.
